Mellor, the UK’s leading manufacturer of size-and-cost-appropriate buses, has supplied 10 new Strata high-floor buses to East Riding of Yorkshire Council – taking the Mellor marque’s presence in the council’s total bus fleet of over 100 vehicles to almost 45%. The delivery of the latest Mellor fleet followed a rigorous tender process where the Strata product emerged as the preferred option against all its main competitor vehicles.

Key to the decision to select the Mellor Strata was vehicle specification – particularly interior body width which allows for an impressively wide gangway – and also excellent customer relations with the Mellor Sales and Service teams. The 16-passenger capacity buses feature Phoenix Blenheim seats, Ricon inboard tail-lifts, Eberspacher Air Climate Control and 21st Century CCTV systems.

The vehicles will deliver home-to-school transport services for children with special educational needs, plus services for adults attending day care provision. The East Riding fleet also includes a number of bespoke-built accessible buses from Treka – which sits alongside Mellor within the WNVTech company. The Mellor bus range comprises Sigma – the new all-electric six-model bus range – and also Strata, Orion, Maxima and Tucana ranges.

“We’re very well acquainted with the Mellor Strata product,” said Colin Walker, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Transportation Services Group Manager, “Specification is spot-on, particularly the wide body which gives plenty of accessibility between seat rows – it really does suit our needs precisely. Reliability plays a big part, too,” he said, “and our fleet maintenance department rates the Strata highly in this respect.”
He added, “We find Mellor especially easy to deal with. They listen to our feedback, and they adapt accordingly, and that’s a really important aspect of the relationship.”
