A New Chapter for Enfield’s SEND Transport with Five Mellor Maximas

Every school day, children across Enfield depend on transport that’s safe, comfortable and on time. As of now, five brand-new Mellor Maximas are part of that journey.

We’re delighted to have delivered five Maxima vehicles to the London Borough of Enfield for its SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) transport service. It’s the start of a new partnership, as this is the council’s first Mellor order.

Enfield needed to replace its existing SEND vehicles, as the model it had been using is no longer manufactured. Rather than simply finding a like for like replacement, the council looked for a vehicle designed around the specific needs of its service. The Maxima’s bespoke design met those requirements.

Each Maxima seats 24 passengers and is built on a Euro VI-D 180HP chassis, with an 8-speed automatic gearbox for a smooth, quiet ride. Inside, high quality seating keeps passengers comfortable. An underfloor cassette lift provides safe, dignified, step-free access for wheelchair users.

Changing vehicles on a service that families rely on daily leaves no room for delays. The timing had to be right, and it was. Julian Minta, Head of Fleet & Transport Operations at the London Borough of Enfield, said:

“Mellor provided a cost-effective solution and a quality product for use within the SEND Transport service. Excellent lead times and adherence to delivery schedules allowed us to get the vehicles into service in a timely manner without any disruption to services.”

That’s exactly the result we aim for: the right vehicles, delivered on schedule, with the people who use them getting the most from the change.

The Maxima now makes up around 7% of Enfield’s fleet, and we’re proud to be part of the team keeping the borough moving.
