Mellor Coachcraft will be exhibiting its new range of vehicles for the first time at Euro Bus Expo, which runs from 1 to 3 November at the NEC.

The 30-seat, flat-floor Maxima which can take as many as eight wheelchairs in an almost limitless number of configurations will sit alongside its stablemate, the Sprinter-based lowfloor bus, the Strata. Designed specifically for stage carriage work on low-volume routes or challenging roadspace, it’s bound to pull a crowd.
Outside, Mellor Coachcraft will be demonstrating the Tucana II – a coachbuilt accessible 15-seater which uses as its base the impressive Volkswagen T6, with its DSG gearbox option. Completely revised, this re-imagining of the Tucana concept offers better accessibility to its class-leading entrance step height.

“We are pleased to be able to present all three new models together,” said Mellor General Manager John Randerson. “When operators view the new range, I hope they will be able to see how Mellor has truly surged ahead in terms of both design and finish.
“Traditionally, it’s not easy to find early adopters for new models but our lowfloor fare-stage bus, the Strata, attracted buyers before it went into production, confirming that our decision to build a Sprinter-based coachbuilt for the stage carriage market was the right one. This bus now offers a 22-seater at 22 mpg which will significantly reduce operating costs.”

The Maxima steps in where much-loved Mercedes-Benz Vario-based vehicles left off. Underpinned by Iveco’s 7.5-tonne Daily with its ZF engineered gearbox, it has been extensively designed with CAD to achieve dependable strength and quality of finish. This coachbuilt 30-seater offers exceptional economy for its capacity.
The Tucana II builds on a reputation earned by sales of 600 of its predecessor, with a better entrance door and a complete redesign inside and out, retaining the practicality of a 15-seat vehicle but now able to accommodate four wheelchairs without the need for a passenger lift.
