Gateshead Central Taxis’ Bus Division has taken delivery of three new Mellor Orion buses, an addition to the three vehicles of the same specification purchased towards the end of last year.

The buses are designed for stage fare work with driver partition, bell pushes, luggage storage, cash tray and destination display. The vehicles are configured to carry 23 passengers and are also fitted with multi-camera CCTV systems.

Graham Mulvaney, Transport Manager at Gateshead Central Taxis Bus Division, said: “This latest investment takes our Orion tally up to 15. We have had an excellent experience with the make and model and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a robust, accessible and fuel-efficient vehicle.

“The interior of the bus is light and airy and has the feel of a much larger vehicle. Both our passengers and drivers only have positive feedback on the Orions and the vast improvement they have made to our fleet, which we have been upgrading over the past two years.”

The Orion is designed to be robust, especially for community transportation and dial-a-ride contracts. The entirely configurable passenger area can meet the demands of a multitude of service requirements.
