Melksham Community Transport has taken delivery of two new Mellor Strata low floor buses.

These low floor, easy access, Strata vehicles have been specified to carry up to 16 passengers at a time, and were purchased thanks to a grant from the Government’s £25 million Community Transport Minibus Fund.

The service, which started 30 years ago with just one bus, has now grown to five vehicles with the boost of this donation, and carries approximately 20,000 local residents a year.

George Brown, Bus Manager for Melksham Community Transport, said:

“I have been with the scheme for more than 15 years and we’re delighted with these additional buses. We needed to replace two older vehicles but without the grant this wouldn’t have been possible.
The service is vital for a lot of people and they would be lost without it and the buses have given the group a new lease of life.These new Stratas will allow more people to get out to appointments, excursions and to the shops. Being brand new, the vehicles are also more comfortable and will certainly be more fuel efficient with less emissions.
For a lot of people, the bus is the only way they can socialise and get out of the house, meet other passengers and make friends. It is a huge benefit to the community.
